FAQ's

*What happens to the alarm if the power goes off?
Connected to the alarm control is a rechargeable battery which will run the alarm for many hours in case of a power failure. When the power is restored, the battery will automatically recharge. The battery has a life of 3-4 years. This is always good to test when we service your System regularly.

*Can I change my own code?
Yes! Programming your own code, plus additional codes (if required) is very straight forward. Our technicians will show you how to do this when the alarm is installed and there is a section in the users manual (supplied with the alarm) which clearly explains the procedure.

*Will my alarm still work properly if I get broadband connected?
Yes! An A.D.S.L. filter would need to be connected into your alarm panel at the phone connection. This allows monitoring signals to be received at the monitoring station and still enjoy faster internet connection at your computer.

*I want to get Fibre connected to my Home, what do I need for the Alarm to notify me on any potential issues.?
Yes, Chorus will run the connection to your home then your provider will install a Modem in your home to activate the streaming/faster connection. We need to install an Internet module (Ip150) so as to make connection from your Alarm panel to the Modem...for monitoring or self monitoring..

*Can we have part of the alarm on at night?
Yes! By a method called zone bypass, you can have any part of the alarm working that you would like. If there are areas you will regularly not be wanting on (example, downstairs or hallway off at night) the technicians can programme your alarm control so that this can be achieved by pressing one button on the key pad as you retire for the night.

*Can I Operate My Garage Door from my Keypad - Yes, you can operate the Garage Door by pressing the Utility Button on your Touchsceen Keypad or your Standard Keypad..

*What about pets – Do they have to be out when the alarm is on?
No! We would use special detectors that are pet friendly, designed specifically to cater to this situation so your pet can access the house when the alarm is armed, with out risk of activation.

*Will the alarm go off for ages and annoy the neighbours if it does happen to activate?
No! An electronic timer in the control unit will automatically stop the sirens after a pre-set time. This time is adjustable from a few seconds to about 20 minutes. Technicians usually set the sirens to run for about 4 minutes after which time they close down and the alarm system automatically resets itself.

*What do I do if I accidentally set the alarm off?
Simply enter your code into the keypad and the alarm will stop sounding.

How much time do we have to get inside and switch off the alarm?
The entry delay can very easily be increased or reduced either on site by Cole Security technicians. We usually allow an entry time of about 30 seconds, this can be more or less, dependant on your requirement. In most cases there is an audible warning sound from the keypad when you enter to remind you to turn the system off.

*Can I Add Remotes to my Alarm Later ?
Yes, we can add an Interface to you Alarm to operate the Alarm and your Garage Door or Gate if you Want..

*How easy is the alarm to operate for children?
The keypad controller on our alarms is about the same degree of difficulty as a telephone. So if your child is able to use a telephone, using the alarm will be simple.

*Can burglars get at the siren outside?
The external siren has a polycarbonate cover for protection and is securely fastened to the building. Within are devices known as ‘tamper switches’ which will detect interference with the siren and activate the alarm if this happens.

*I don't have a phone line connected -Can the System still contact me?
Yes it can. We can install a Texting Module into your Alarm system..so it will Text you on Alarm activations..

*Do you have a 24 hour backup service if a fault develops?
If the alarm is monitored, and a fault occurs, the monitoring company will contact you and follow procedures previously arranged between you and the monitoring company. If the alarm is not monitored, Cole Security phones are manned between 7.30am – 6.00pm Monday – Friday.
